Canadian Route 66 Association Minutes for Sunday January 13, 2013

10:00 a.m. – Brunch being held @ Choo Choos Restaurant –20559 Fraser Hwy, Langley,

15 Members in attendance

Happy New Year

Christmas Party Report

  • 31 members attended at the Delta Golf Course, with 2 people not being able to attend due to illness.
  • Bonnie presented Rick with a gift as Thank You for all his assistance with Assoc and other events as he missed the Christmas Party.
  • Everyone had a great time once again; gifts were a lot of fun, the new space we had as opposed to the original location was much better. Everyone enjoyed being able to move from one table to another without being cramped....what a difference.
  • The Golf Course would like us to make a confirmed date for 2013 as they plan to make full use of their new facility this year by having the room rented out every weekend. We are being given first priority on a date. Bonnie gave members present an option for 2 dates November 30 or December 7. Majority vote was for December 7. Bonnie will contact Golf Course to make reservation.

AGM Notes:

At the Annual General Meeting in October 2011 a vote was held to change the way we manage the membership renewals. Since we do not want to send out renewal notices to our members it was decided at the AGM to change the annual renewal date to January effective 2013.

Any renewals that come in during the year, your renewal date will be changed to January and will be reflected on your next newsletter.

Craig - Reviewed Finances for 2012. Copies of report will be available at our next meeting for anyone who was not in attendance.

As a non profit association we are not making allot of money, we are not in the red either. Net Revenue after all expenses 2012 - $198.51

Proposed Trips/Activities for 2013

SUGGESTIONS for activities/Garage Tours

  • Bonnie proposed a few names of collectors around lower mainland where we could possibly have a Garage Tour.  Wes & John S. offered to work together and will report back at Feb meeting.
  •  PACCAR Technical Center Open House in Mt Vernon. FREE open house from 11 - 3, Saturday April 13. This open house is also during Tulip Festival, we could take a cruise around the Tulip fields if the weather is favourable.

You will see the trucks and how they test them. This is a 242-acre site  1 mile N of Hwy 20 on Farm to Market Rd. It provides test and development for all PACCAR divisions, including Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF trucks. The tour highlights test labs and trucks manufactured by PACCAR.  Very informative event, Many of our new members have not been to this open house, it was proposed to participate in this event, in place of an April meeting.

Fun Run

George has been asked by several people about a route for this year’s Fun Run, we will be departing from Vancouver either Friday April 26 or Sat April 27.  The Route 66 Fun Run itself is May 3,4, 5.

The three-day event, held the first weekend of May begins in Seligman and travels 140 miles to Topock/Golden Shores.  The event is open to any vehicle, classic or otherwise. The event is about the road, preservation and having fun driving Route 66.

Suggestions on places to see:

  • Disneyland to visit CARSLAND
  • Indian Canyon - Palm Springs
  • Yellowstone
  • Holbrook AZ and sleep in a Tepee!
  • Petrified Forest National Park

Car events listing:

Lee Harrison list is no longer being printed and mailed to clubs as there are too many changes each year to keep things current, he now only has a web listing http://www.autoeventlist.com  (This is available on our web site "Links" page)

The Route 66 Fun Run is listed, along with many other car shows  around the city during the summer.

"Kruise for Kids" is our charity of choice; all 50/50 draws are donated towards Kruise for Kids each year. We are also collecting pennies, don’t forget to bring in any pennies you may have at home and we will add these to our donation. Bonnie's Mom collects the pennies and rolls them.

50/50 draw $30 won by Don Arason.

Meeting adjourned at 11:50 am.
