Dear Friends of Route 66,
It's travel season, and now you can get your kicks with our newly updated Share Your Heritage Route 66 Travel Itinerary!
Did you know that there are more than 250 buildings, bridges, road alignments and other sites along Route 66 that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and that many more are eligible? The National Register of Historic Places is administered by National Park Service and is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation. Listing on the National Register brings honor and recognition of the importance of these sites, as well as tax incentives for preservation. The Share Your Heritage Route 66 Travel Itinerary highlights more than 100 of these important places along Route 66, and provides historical and other information to help you enjoy your Route 66 travels and learn more about the rich history of the road.
The itinerary was produced and first published in 2013 by the National Park Service's Heritage Education Services and the National Park Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, in partnership with the American Express and World Monuments Fund Sustainable Tourism Initiative and the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers. We are happy to now share this revised and updated version with you!
Enjoy!
