Miles of Possibilities 2018 - Carlinville, IL

Bonnie & George in Santa Fe

Trains, Planes and Automobles:

Bonnie and I attended this years Miles of Possibiliies Conferences in Carlinville Illinous. We started our trip by flying to Albuqurque NM and renting a car to drive up to Santa Fee to visit a friend who gives walking tours of Historic Santa Fe. The next morning we met for breakfast and then did a fabulous walking tour of the town. We then headed to Antonito Colorado to catch the Combre & Toltec Historic Steam Railway the next morning.

The  day was perfect with clear skies for our day long train ride. Fresh snow had fallen 3 days earlier and there was still evidence on the north facing hills. At the end of the train ride a bus was waiting to return us to Antonito.

We returnted to Albuquerque, dropped off the rental car and settled into our hotel for the night. The next  day we boarded our Amtrak train to Chicago. A rough ride and whistles blowing throughout the night made for a less than comfortable journey. The scenery in New Mexico and Colorado was fantastic. Food was good and the people we shared meals with were friendly and interesting.

Arriving in Chicago 30 hours later we picked up our rental car and headed south to Raymond, IL, staying at the Magnuson Hotel. The next morning we met Ron the Tattoo Man in the lobby and  headed into Carlinville to check out the Conference Centre which was located at the Blackburn College.  A great venue.

The conferences were great with many good speakers and presentations. I am sure everyone involed enjoyed the event.

On Saturday after the conference, Bonnie and I put on our Halloween Costumes and went into town to enjoy the 79th Annual Halloween Parade in Carlinville. After the parade we headed to the wrap up party and dinner at Crabby’s Supper Club. Everyone was in costume and we all had a good last meal together before heading home.

Sunday we returned to Chicago and dropped off our rental car. We finished the trip at a local restuarant with a fantastic Deep Dish Pizza. What else would you have in Chicago?
